Simple Travel Tips For A Great Trip

By Lonnie Harper

Everyone has that feeling when they are about to walk out the door, or sitting on a plane 10,000 feet above ground; did I leave the oven on? While traveling is a fun and relaxing experience, it also has its own myriad of stresses that we hope the following information will help you sort through and prepare for your next big trip. When traveling, the savvy tourist will always be on the lookout for local restaurants. A chain restaurant, even one belonging to a foreign chain the traveler does not know, will never be as colorful as an independently operated eatery. Not only are locally-owned restaurants more memorable, they are frequently cheaper than more generic options.

When you are going on a cruise, consider taking a power strip along with you. Typically most cabins on cruise ships have only one or two outlets, and by bringing a power strip, you will be able to run more of your appliances for an easier and more convenient stay aboard the ship. When you are traveling to a new city, join in on a pub crawl. You can experience the downtown area and meet new people. You'll have even more a blast by slowly eating dinner across the different restaurants; have drinks at one place and then an appetizer at the next. Work your way up to a main course and dessert.

When you get back from a trip with a baby or toddler, do not expect them to be back to their schedule as usual the greatly next day. Children this age like to follow schedules and theirs was disrupted for some time. By realizing this, it will help you understand them better and make this transition period a little easier for all.If you are going to travel, make sure that you are aware of the local laws and obey them. Should you be out of your area most probably the laws are different, and ignorance does not necessarily mean that the court systems will show sympathy. There is a common saying "When in Rome do as the Romans do".

If you are heading out on a road trip, have your car serviced and thoroughly checked over by a mechanic. The last thing anyone wants when on a road trip is a broken down car in the middle of nowhere. Even if you break down in a populated area, the cost and time spent on repairs can ruin a vacation.Learn the tipping culture for whatever countries you plan to visit. In some cultures, tipping is automatic, while in others, it does not exist. There are still a few cultures in which tipping is considered a great insult, so mind your manners by checking the customs. You do not want to insult your server.

Eliminate the costly middleman in travel arrangements. If you use a big name site, there's a clever chance that they will charge you an additional transaction fee on top of the cost of your ticket. This can be avoided when you book directly through the airline or the hotel. When you book a hotel online,(especially when you don't book directly through the hotel's own website), it is recommended to call the hotel directly to confirm your reservation. Calling ahead will prevent you from arriving at the hotel, exhausted and ready to sleep, and finding out that they have no record of your reservation.

Anyone who's ever been on a cruise knows how much all the hallways and doors look the same. To make finding your door easier, bring a photo of your family pet or something (nothing personal!) and attach it to the door with a Christmas bow. This will help you easily identify which room is yours.
